Cliffe Woods Football Club was formed during the 2002/2003 season when the players of the ‘Huntsman’ Saturday team wanted to break away from their existing base and find another home.
Due to the fact the team were playing all home games (and a few away games) at Cliffe Woods Recreation Ground, the Cliffe Woods Social Club was approached and an agreement was reached to use the Social Club as the new team base.
This arrangement was instantly successful, with the Social Club providing a buffet after the games and the player’s spending money in the Club.
The Social Club was approached regarding sponsorship for the following season. This was agreed, providing the Football Club drop the name of ‘Huntsman’ and play under the name of Cliffe Woods, displaying the name ‘Cliffe Woods Social Club’ on the front of the shirts.
So great was the interest around the Social Club and in the Village, we soon had a number of local people wanting to get involved, it was decided that with 46 people wanting to play the following season, a reserve side would be entered into the League.
During the close season we managed to secure three additional sponsorship deals:-
Dane Travel – A local taxi company, who have provided the complete playing kit for the new reserve team.
ADI Refrigeration – A local Refrigeration/Air conditioning Company, who have provided us with a set of away shirts should there be a colour clash.
And
Shepherd Neame Brewery – From Faversham who have supplied a set of drill tops, which are over marked with the player’s initials and sold to them at a subsidised price.
In October 2003 another sponsor was added to the list. Jus Cos Sports – A Strood based sportswear Company, who have provided another set of playing kit.
Season 2003/2004 saw the Cliffe Woods First Team enter the Rochester & District Football League Division 2 and the new Reserve Team in Division 5.
In addition to this Cliffe Woods FC have various representations in local 5-a-side Leagues.
